A Walk from the Church up the hill above Castle Cary on our way back from Stourhead
Hi
The plan was to have a check on this pretty little town which is the first stop by rail, on the Paddington line from Taunton. It has a hill with far reaching views and it is on the Monarch's Way which is a long distance trail which Jane and I completed in 2014.
The guidebook says
The town is noted for its high quality shops - grocers, outfitters, ironmongers, books, antiques and local produce. There are several inns in the town, wonderful restaurants and tearooms making it perfect destination for a relaxing country break.

The church was built in 1470 and is Listed Grade 2. It is noted for its tall steeple.
The church of All Saints as seen from the original Castle. The castle was an earth and timber ringwork structure built upon Lodge Hill overlooking the adjacent town and the source of the River Cary.
