The Landmark Trust is a British building conservation charity, founded in 1965, that rescues buildings of historic interest or architectural merit and then makes them available for holiday rental.
I stayed in The Old Lighthouse on the Island of Lundy for a week at the end of 2021 and arrived by helicopter along with island victuals and other holidaymakers staying in the range of other converted holiday homes managed by the Landmark Trust. The island is owned by the National Trust and can only be reached from the North Devon coast by helicopter in the week on a Friday or Monday or by boat in summer months.
It was a real pleasure to stay in the original lighthouse which was decommissioned when it was superseded by 2 new lighthouses built at sea level rather than at the high level of the hilltop which was often shrouded in mist and not suitable for year-long purpose.
Access across fields and moorland
Entrance to the lighthouse and 2 flats
I rented the first floor flat
The coal scuttle
My Pal John leaving for a walk
The lounge with open fireplace.
Ahhh. It was a good day!
The washroom for the original lighthouse keepers
Staircase up the lighthouse
Bottom of the staircase
The lighthouse is decommissioned and the lights removed to be replaced by deckchairs!
Sunlight Rays regularly hit the land and sea through clouds
Our garden and access to the village - no street lights....
The village has a pub, church and shop
Another Landmark Trust letting property
A well drilled operation of getting people and victuals to and from the mainland, twice a week.
That's it. Thanks for visiting this site. Ken
