A great week spent with my pal in a lighthouse on the Island Of Lundy in the Bristol Channel.
This isolated island is 5 miles from the North Devon coast at Hartland and in the winter is reachable only by helicopter twice a week. The island is owned by the National Trust and the range of holiday cottages is managed by the Landmark Trust - a registered charity specialising in the renovation of building for guest accommodation.
My pal, John , and I both had birthdays falling within a few days of each other and decided to take the first floor flat in the former lighthouse to enjoy time together on this beautiful island.
The easiest thing I can do is set out a selection of photographs showing the island features. It is a beautiful place and one I am sure we will revisit again in the future.
Helicopter transfer for people and provisions.
Now on Lundy watching the arrival of the helicopter shuttle.
Yes, there is a shop selling a good range of provisions for self catering. We ordered some goodies to be ready for our arrival and this worked very well.
Yes, there is a church and this was connected to wifi and visitors could sign in using the password to get access to the outside world for a small fee.
The other building are all holiday lets offering interesting and very varied accommodations at different standards.
John and I stayed in the upper flat which was formerly the home of one of the lighthouse keepers.
Yes, there is a pub and there is John enjoying a pint of the black stuff with a big white head.
