Oxenford Gatehouse Elstead Surrey
Just to the southwest of Guildford and set back from the road can be found this handsome asymmetric building dating back to the 19th Century when the architect and designer Augustus Pugin designed this building to resemble a medieval gatehouse along with neighbouring properties.
For us this was a return to another steep spiral staircase and a moat to cross to gain access to the property. It was a great stay and with interesting places to visit locally.
I hope you enjoy looking at this property which is non-conformist in its design inside and out.
Full Front view.
Our lounge and a bedroom and kitchen were above the driveway and the bathroom and another bedroom were located to the left.
There was no access for us through the big gates. We had to access the property across our garden and into the side over the moat.
The moat was quite deep and burgeoned into a lake on the other side of the drive.
The old copper is still proudly in place. This would have been used to heat the water in earlier times.
The start of the 33 steps to the upstairs lounge.
Why am I always leaving my glasses or IPhone on the wrong floor?
A nice welcome from the house manager
The kitchen was a big room and provided all we needed.
Good heating throughout.
A full day at Winkworth Arboretum and a relax in the garden to catch the last of the sun.
Time to Return Home after a lovely stay. Thanks for looking.
