The Clatworthy Reservoir Walk, Brendon Hills Somerset.
The Brendon Hills lie to the south east of Exmoor to the west of Taunton, Somerset's County Town. The reservoir supplies water to about 200,000 homes. The reservoir was created in 1959 by the construction of the concrete dam which spans the valley of the River Tone. When full the reservoir covers 52.6 hectares and contains 5,360 million litres.
Our interest was simply to do some good country walking and the 5 mile circuit out of season proved to be a splendid choice, not just with the walking but the drive to get there through some wiggly country lanes.
Wessex Water Board own and manage the site and their advert reads Great walks, abundant wildlife and some of the best fly-fishing in the West Country are promised at Clatworthy Reservoir. That's some promise but we can tick the two boxes of good walking and wildlife sightings and we are well aware of the great fishing opportunities.
To that list we would add good views for photographic composition and you can see a selection of our work below.
This is a damn good photograph!
One of 7 stream inlets into the reservoir.
Strolling in amongst some beautiful trees
The magnificent loan Ash Tree.
For all that body of water it is amazing how piddly the outlet is!
Have you ever wondered why trees of this type take on such odd shapes?
Its simply because people sit on them.
Clatworthy Church lies above the reservoir and was built in the 12th century.
Yes, it is the same picture. I'm not sure which one I prefer. Any comments would be gratefully appreciated.
We called this, Bent Tree Alley.
Fascinating shapes of twirling ballerinas.
Sheila shows off her new red hat which sadly has lost its bobble.
